Privacy policy

This page explains what data Wattcalc collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We aim to keep this short and plain-English.

What we collect

Wattcalc does not require an account, login or email address. The values you enter into a calculator stay in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used in aggregate — pages viewed, devices, country, broad referral sources and how long people spend on the site. We do not collect names, addresses, phone numbers or financial details.

Cookies and similar technologies

Wattcalc uses a small number of cookies and local storage entries:

  • Google Analytics 4 sets cookies (commonly _ga and _ga_*) so it can distinguish unique visitors and sessions.
  • Google AdSense may set cookies to serve and measure ads, including via the Google Display Network. You can review and adjust ad personalisation at Google Ad Settings.

You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the site (and ads) may not work as expected.

Advertising — Google AdSense

Wattcalc is funded by display advertising via Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. For more information, see Google’s advertising policy.

Consent for visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you visit Wattcalc from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will see a consent banner before any non-essential cookies — including advertising and analytics cookies — are set. The banner is provided by Google’s Consent Management Platform, which is certified under the IAB Europe Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) v2.2.

The banner lets you choose to:

  • Consent — allow personalised advertising and analytics cookies;
  • Do not consent — see only non-personalised, contextual ads, with no advertising or analytics cookies stored on your device.

The legal basis for processing in these regions is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR (and the equivalent UK and Swiss provisions). You can withdraw or change your consent at any time by clicking the privacy options link displayed by the consent banner, or by clearing the cookies for wattcalc.com.au in your browser, which will cause the banner to reappear on your next visit. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal.

If you are visiting from outside the EEA, UK or Switzerland (including from Australia), the consent banner does not apply to you, and your visit is governed by the rest of this policy and applicable local law.

Data sharing

We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing. The only third parties that receive data through Wattcalc are the analytics and advertising providers listed above, and only for the purposes stated.

Your rights

If you are an Australian resident, you have rights under the Australian Privacy Principles, including the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to request correction. To exercise these rights, email privacy@wattcalc.com.au.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The most recent version is always available at this URL. Material changes will be summarised at the top of this page.
